Governor Sisolak issues emergency directive, sets moratorium on evictions and foreclosures

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — In a press conference with Attorney General Aaron Ford and State Treasurer Zach Conine, Governor Steve Sisolak announced a new emergency directive, putting a moratorium on foreclosures and evictions.

Governor Sisolak said the directive will last through the end of the emergency declaration in the state. He also said no late fees will be allowed on rent payments, and landlords are not allowed to intimidate tenants or change locks on their homes.

Texas Governor orders self-quarantine for anyone traveling into state from Louisiana

AUSTIN, La. (KLFY) Any person traveling to Texas from Louisiana will be required to self-quarantine for 14 days upon arrival under an expansion made to executive orders issued by Gov. Greg Abbott Sunday.

“My prior executive order about travel from New Orleans covered air travel from New Orleans into the state of Texas. Now, I am updating that executive order to also include travel by road. Travel by road from any location in the state of Louisiana. Importantly, this executive order does not apply to travel related to commercial activity, military service, emergency response, health response, or critical infrastructure functions. This order will be enforced like the order that I issued previously about travel from New Orleans. It will be enforced by the Department of Public Safety at and near entry points from Louisiana.”... Country music legend Joe Diffie dies from COVID-19 complications

NEW YORK (AP) — Country singer Joe Diffie, who had a string of hits in the 1990s with chart-topping ballads and honky-tonk singles like “Home” and “Pickup Man,” has died after testing positive for COVID-19. He was 61.

Diffie on Friday announced he had contracted the coronavirus, becoming the first country star to go public with such a diagnosis. Diffie’s publicist Scott Adkins said the singer died Sunday in Nashville, Tennessee, due to complications from the virus.

Diffie, a native of Tulsa, Oklahoma, was a member of the Grand Ole Opry for more than 25 years. His hits included “Honky Tonk Attitude,” “Prop Me Up Beside the Jukebox (If I Die),” “Bigger Than the Beatles” and “If the Devil Danced (In Empty Pockets).”... Read More

IHME forecast: Nevada COVID-19 pandemic to peak on April 15

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The peak of the COVID-19 pandemic is about 16 days away for Nevada, according to projections published by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation. The pandemic is projected to peak on April 15 in the Silver State.

IHME says even if the state and nation continue to use “strong social distancing” and other protective measures until the end of May, demand for hospital services will exceed capacity.

The data by IHME shows the projected hospital resource use based on COVID-19 deaths.

In Nevada, the IHME expects the state to have about 64% of the hospital beds it will need for COVID-19 patients when the pandemic peaks. ... Read More

CBS News journalist dies from COVID-19

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A CBS News employee has died from COVID-19 in a New York hospital. Maria Mercader, a CBS News journalist for three decades, died from COVID-19 on Sunday at age 54.

“It’s nearly impossible to be someone EVERYONE loves, but Maria was,” Laurie Orlando, CBS News SVP of Talent said.

The network says Mercader had been on medical leave for an unrelated matter since the last week in February.
