A corrections officer for Henderson Police has been arrested and taken off the job. Ronald Peeler was arrested Thursday night.

However, Henderson Police says it can't release any information about why Peeler was arrested because the case is in Metro's jurisdiction.

Recreational marijuana sales begin in Henderson

It was a big day for marijuana dispensaries in Henderson Friday. It was the first day for recreational marijuana sales.

Bianca MacIntosh says the convenience factor of being able to now buy recreational marijuana in Henderson is huge.

"There's not as many people, she said. "Not having to wait as long, making more personal relationships," she said.

The Source is one of five dispensaries in Henderson where you can buy recreational marijuana.

CEO Andrew Jolley says the process was slower in Henderson to get to this point but believes the industry will continue boom.

"There's a lot of economic development that comes with this industry so tax revenue, jobs, business overall and I think it's a right that people should have in this state," Jolley said.

"It's a long way to come from when we were in high school," Daryl Smith said.

Legacy Golf Course expected to reopen this week

The new owners of the Legacy Golf Course announced Monday that it would have a soft opening of the golf course on Thursday, Oct. 12. The property's now under the new management of Par Excellence Drive Trust, LLC.

Since Par Excellence Drive Trust, LLC took over the Legacy Golf Course has undergone a complete review to enhance the championship level golf course when it was closed in July.

Henderson Police investigates attempted child luring case

Police are investigating an attempted child luring incident in Henderson. It happened around 9:45 a.m. Saturday near Patti Ann Woods Drive and Noble Isle Street.

According to officers, a person driving a white van with dark tinted windows tried to lure a child into it. Some of the windows of the van were painted white with animal caricatures.

Henderson Police said as the van drove by, a suspect, described as wearing a black hoody or mask, jumped out of it, while another person continued to drive. The suspects didn't say anything to the child before the child ran away, but police were concerned enough to send a letter to parents on Monday.

Police did not release any other description about the suspect or the driver.

Henderson firefighter injured fighting condo fire

A Henderson firefighter was hurt battling a blaze Wednesday evening.

The fire at Scottsdale Valley Condos near Eastern and Wigwam broke out around 6 p.m. The building's sprinkler system kept the fire under control until the fire department arrived at the scene.

The firefighters suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Henderson announces new police chief: Meet LaTesha Watson

The City of Henderson has a new police chief, and her name is LaTesha Watson. Henderson City Manager Bob Murnane made the announcement late Friday morning.

Watson comes to the City of Henderson from Arlington, Texas where she was a deputy chief at the Arlington Police Department.

"Latesha Watson brings proven leadership skills, extensive law enforcement experience and a vision for building on the success of the Henderson Police Department to the role of Police Chief. As the next leader of our police force, her number one job will be making sure Henderson remains one of the safest cities in America," said Murnane. Man found submerged in water rushed to hospital

Henderson Police said a man in his mid-30's nearly drowned Wednesday night.

According to police, officers were called to the area of 1851 Green Valley Parkway around 6:58 p.m.

The man was taken to St. Rose Sienna Hospital and is said to be in critical condition.
