Two Abandoned Homes Catch Fire in Henderson

HENDERSON -- Henderson fire crews battled two early morning house fires on Friday near Eastern and Serene.

The first fire started at around 1:30 a.m. in an abandoned home. The second call came around 4 a.m. when a passerby called to report another abandoned home on fire.

Firefighters say are calling both fires suspicious and they are under investigating.

Backpacks, Supplies and Clothes Needed for Children

HENDERSON -- A Henderson non-profit organization is asking for the community's help in providing children with back to school supplies.

The Henderson Back 2 School Celebration will be held August 21. It will provide children from several local organizations with a new backpack, school supplies and at least one new outfit.  "More families than ever are struggling to get school supplies and clothing for their children," said Daniele Dreitzer, HopeLink. 

HopeLink is asking the community for donations to help provide new school clothes for each child. Other organizations involved in the Back 2 School Celebration include the Salvation Army, Giving Life Ministries, Central Christian Church, Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada and the Henderson welfare office. HopeLink hopes to distribute supplies to 1,000 children in need. 

Henderson Apartment Fire Displaces 3 Families

HENDERSON -- Henderson fire officials say three families were displaced by an apartment fire that investigators believe was intentionally set.

No injuries were reported in the 4:22 a.m. Tuesday blaze in a second-floor apartment at the Verde Viejo apartment complex near Warm Springs Road and Arroyo Grande Boulevard in the Green Valley area.

Fire officials called the fire arson, but didn't immediately release details.

The American Red Cross was assisting the three families displaced by the fire.Damage was estimated at about $35,000.

Two Sought in Colorado Child Death Returned from Nevada

HENDERSON -- A fugitive couple sought in the death of a 9-year-old girl whose body was found in a vacant home have returned to Colorado in custody from Nevada.

Sheriff's deputy Teresa Murphy said Hanif Sims and his girlfriend, Monique Lynch, arrived in Colorado's El Paso County on Saturday. They had been jailed in Henderson since their arrest July 7 at a southern Nevada motel.

Sims and Lynch, both 29, were sought after the body of Sims' daughter was found May 14 in the crawl space of a town home in Monument, Colo., about 50 miles south of Denver.

Sims faces assault and child abuse causing death charges and is being held on $750,000 bail. Lynch faces a child abuse resulting in death charge and is being held on $500,000 bail.

PT's Pubs is Holding Job Fairs

LAS VEGAS -- Dozens of jobs are up for grabs this week. Golden Gaming's PT's Pubs is holding three job fairs. The job fair starts Monday from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Another  job fair will be held on August 2nd and August 9th. These job fairs will be used to fill positions available in other taverns citywide. The job fairs will be  held at the Sierra Gold Tavern at Jones and 215.

Coroner's Inquest Finds Henderson Shooting Justified

LAS VEGAS -- A Clark County coroner's inquest has found an officer involved shooting that happened in Henderson last month justified.

Police shot and killed 39-year-old Kelly Dupriest after they say she backed toward them in a stolen car.

Police say DuPriest and 21-year-old Carlos Enrique Pedraza were on a crime spree when police caught up to them on MacDonald Ranch Drive. Besides stealing the car, Dupriest and Pedraza were accused of breaking into at least one home and terrorizing McDonald Ranch residents with a gun.

Pedraza was also shot, but survived.

A total of six officers were involved in shooting. Sgt. Christopher Delacanal, Officer Juan Castro, Officer James Dunn, Officer Kevin Grant, Officer Michael Schmitz and Officer Jeff Wiener have been on paid administrative leave since the shooting.

Registration Begins for Adult Softball Leagues

Registration for adult softball leagues will start on Aug. 2nd and end Sept. 17th.
