Police Raid Two Suspected Grow Houses

HENDERSON, Nev. -- Metro Police was the lead agency on an investigation into two suspected marijuana grow houses in Henderson Monday afternoon.

Police estimated there are at least 70 plants inside one of the houses with an estimated worth of $250,000.

The SWAT team moved in to the first home about 2:30 p.m. Monday.

Someone called police about the house a few days ago, reporting suspicious behavior. According to neighbors, a couple in their 20s lived at the home, and they had only been there a short time.

After surveillance, the warrant was served. Police found the house on Glen Oak because of the overwhelming smell of marijuana.

Construction Started on Henderson Water Park

City and company officials shovel the first bit of earth in a groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday.

HENDERSON, Nev. -- The land is undeveloped, but with the start of the construction of a 23-acre water park in Henderson, hundreds of construction and seasonal jobs are expected to be created.

During a groundbreaking ceremony at the future Cowabunga Bay water park Tuesday, Splash Management general manager Ben Howell said he expects the park and its 30 attractions to be finished by next summer.

"I've built this thing time after time in my head, but it's once you put the shovel in the ground and start to have equipment on site that it really starts making it all come to life," Howell said.

He said hundreds of construction workers will be needed to build the park, on the corner of Galleria Drive and Gibson Road, including those in excavation, plumbing, concrete and building.

Water park executive Shane Huish said he's been waiting for a chance to build a location in the Las Vegas area.

California Company Purchases Lake Las Vegas Hotel and Casino

Another ownership change is on the horizon at Lake Las Vegas.

California-based Kam Sang Co. recently closed a deal to acquire Ravella at Lake Las Vegas and Casino MonteLago from Village Hospitality, LLC.

Phil Wolfgramm of Kam Sang Co. said no jobs will be cut as a result of the sale and the company will consider staffing increases if demand rises. Wolfgramm said the company plans some renovations to the public areas of the hotel and to the rooms, and the property will remain open during the planned work.

Built as a Ritz-Carlton property, the hotel neared bankruptcy in 2009 when it was sold to Village Hospitality and rebranded as Ravella. Both Ravella and Casino MonteLago closed at one point before being reopened.
