Snow Falls in the South Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS -- It was an unusual sight for March that you had to see to believe. Snow flurries were seen all over Las Vegas as they fell earlier.

The weather has been constantly changing throughout the day. Snow blanketed the area of State Route 160 early Tuesday causing traffic to move slowly.

Most people were probably caught off guard as the flurries seemed to come out of nowhere.

But up at Mount Charleston, it was quite a pleasant surprise. Fourteen inches of fresh snow fell since 3 a.m. Tuesday making this season one of the best yet.

Back in the valley, light snow could be seen at I-215 and Flamingo and near the airport exchange. It didn't last long, as it warmed up and quickly turned into rain.

"It is a rather unusual occurrence. Going back to our records, we began taking observation in 1937, there have only been 15 days of snow ever reported in the month of March," said Michael Kennedy with the National Weather Service.

The last time it snowed here in March was 18 years ago back in 1992.

The national weather service says way back in 1958 it actually snowed in April , that's the current record for latest snowfall past winter.

As the storm pushes out, there will be unusually warm temperatures starting this weekend.
