Coroner identifies Henderson teen killed

The Clark County Coroner's Office has identified the teen shot and killed over the weekend as 17-year-old Matthew Minkler. His cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head, Metro Police said.

Two male juveniles face charges in the teen's death. They were arrested Friday night after fleeing a traffic stop and then crashing a stolen car, police said.

Officers began following the stolen vehicle because the person behind the wheel was driving in a reckless manner in the area of E. Sunset Road and Green Valley Parkway on Friday around 7:20 p.m., according to a report by the Henderson Police Department.

While attempting to flee, the driver ran a red light and crashed the stolen vehicle. According to the arrest report, several juvenile occupants ran from the scene, but with the help from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Air Support and K-9 units, Henderson Police were able to catch everyone who ran from the scene.

As a result of the stolen vehicle investigation, detectives say they learned about a possible homicide which occurred at an abandoned residence in the area of Sunridge Heights Parkway and Eastern Avenue.

At around 11:15 p.m. Friday, detectives found the body of the male juvenile victim at the home. They then came to the conclusion that circumstances surrounding his death were suspicious.

Authorities charged one juvenile suspect with murder with a deadly weapon and another with accessory to murder after the fact and destroying evidence.

The juveniles were booked into Clark County Juvenile Hall. Due to their age, Henderson Police has not released their identities.

The family of Minkler have set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for funeral arrangements.

This is the fourth homicide investigation in Henderson for 2018.
