AG Adam Laxalt's campaign sends him on southern swing through Henderson

Nevada Attorney General and Republican Gubernatorial Candidate Adam Laxalt made an appearance in Henderson Wednesday. He was participating in a radio interview at Emerald Island Casino.

Laxalt sat down for a radio interview with KXNT radio host Alan Stock to discuss some of what he considers the top issues in his campaign.

He also rebuffed criticism over his role in enforcing the gun background check initiative, which is on hold right now because the law voters passed specifies that the FBI is supposed to perform the background checks, and the agency has said numerous times it will not do that.

"I am the attorney general of this state," Laxalt said. "My role in question 1 was very, very small. I was asked by a state agency, the department of public safety, that currently does background checks in our state, 'what do we do with this ballot initiative?' And we said 'you know, if the FBI won't do this, it's hard to see how this is enforceable.' That is a non-binding opinion, I'm not in charge of DPS, I'm not in charge of the government, we issued a small, a narrow legal opinion to a client that says 'you guys gotta get the FBI on board or else it's hard to see how this goes forward.'"

Laxalt also addressed education funding and school safety; something he considers top priorities.

You can hear more from both sides of the aisle on the campaign trail on the Politics Now show on Sunday at 8:30 a.m. Politics NOW airs after Face the Nation.
