Threat briefly places Thurman White Middle School on lockdown

A school within the Clark County School district was briefly placed on a lockdown Tuesday.

The hour lockdown placed on Thurman White Middle School ended shortly before 2 p.m.

The following ParentLink message was sent to parents:

"This is Andrea Katona, principal at Thurman White Middle School.

I want to let you know that our school was placed in a lockdown around 1 o'clock this afternoon as a precautionary measure due to a report of a threat directed at the school.

Clark County School District Police were contacted and are present on our campus while they investigate the matter. We will maintain the lockdown status until the officers give us clearance to release from the lockdown status.

As a result of the lockdown, please do not come to the school as you will not be allowed to enter the building. Your child/children are in a safe environment, and we would like to thank you for your cooperation.

We will follow up with another ParentLink message once the lockdown has been lifted and we reopen the campus. "

No word on what the threat was, but students are expected to be released at their regular time.

This is a developing story.
