Students from Burkholder Middle School got a chance to walk in the shoes of history on Friday morning. The students put on civil war uniforms to reenact the Battle of Bull Run. The local VFW post helped the kids with the costumes and the battle. Nearly 300 students were part of the reenactment. Organizers say they hope the students learn about our nation's history and take home a lesson about life as well.
"We're hoping they will take away leadership, a sense of team work . They are finding out that they can do things that other people have said they can't do. In other words it is the same thing that they had to learn when they formed the original army that fought the Civil War." said Jim Edwards of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 983The Battle of Bull Run was the first major land conflict in the Civil War.
