80's Rockers Headline ArtBeat

Martha Davis and the Motels will be featured performers in Henderson's ArtBeat.

They'll perform at a special concert on Friday at the Water Street district. The Motels had hit songs in the 80's including "Only the Lonely" and "Suddenly Last Summer". They'll play those songs along with other favorites starting at 8 p.m. 

ArtBeat is a series of cultural events going on in Henderson. It is sponsored by retail giant Target. Admission to the concert is free.

Students from Burkholder Middle School got a chance to walk in the shoes of history on Friday morning.

Design a Grocery Bag to Win at Fresh & Easy

Ten people will win $100 gift cards and one grand winner will get groceries for a year from Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market through the company’s Design-A-Bag contest.

The contest runs now through May 15 for California, Nevada and Arizona residents 13 years and over. They must submit an original design for the next Fresh & Easy reusable bag and a panel of judges will choose 10 finalists – each of whom will receive $100 gift cards for their efforts.

From the top 10, the winner will be selected by a group of customers called “Friends of Fresh & Easy.” The winning design will be made into a reusable bag and sold in all Fresh & Easy stores. The winner will get the grand prize of a year’s supply of groceries.

Learn More About Coat of Arms at Workshop

Residents are invited to explore their family’s history through an introduction to the art of heraldry, which is the study and identification of family emblems and coats of arms.

An Introduction to Heraldry workshop will be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Friday, June 10, at Valley View Recreation Center, 500 Harris St. Registration is $14 per person for ages 18 and up. Register online at cityofhenderson.com (activity code 193047-48) or in person at any City of Henderson recreation center.
 
The workshop presents the medieval art form of heraldry with a touch of humor. Participants can explore the myths, histories and meaning of family coats of arms, and learn how to begin their own research.

Jazz Luminary David Benoit Launches New Henderson Festival

An interesting combination of art and music highlights the new event.

Henderson is jazzed to debut a new art and music festival. Art & All That Jazz will feature artists displaying their wares to the soundtrack of live jazz. It launches on Saturday with pianist David Benoit and 50 to 60 art tents.

Henderson Concert Series Features Rubberband

Another interesting concert comes to downtown Henderson this weekend.

Ryan Shupe & the Rubberband will perform a free concert at 8 p.m. Friday as part of the ArtBeat by Target series at the Henderson Events Plaza, 200 S. Water St. Pre-show activities, such as art displays, demonstrations and local musical acts, will begin at 5 p.m.
