Golf Tournament Honoring Prendes Raises $16,000

A golf tournament honoring a Metro Police sergeant killed in the line of duty raised significant money to benefit a charity formed in his memory.

Held Friday at Southshore Golf Club at Lake Las Vegas, the 7th Annual Henry Prendes Charity Golf Classic raised $16,000 for Henry’s Place, a camp for underprivileged kids in southern Nevada that is currently being developed in Cedar City, Utah.

Part of that money will be donated to the Injured Police Officers Fund to benefit the family of David Vanbuskirk, the Metro officer who died July 22 during a search and rescue operation.

“Through the continuous support of our community, we are finally able to turn our dream into a reality when we break ground on the camp site in October,” said Dawn Prendes, widow of Sgt. Prendes and founder of Henry’s Place. “I am truly grateful for Sheriff Gillespie and Metro’s involvement, all of the golfers who participated, the generous donations of so many local businesses and the media who help us promote our efforts.”

Henry’s Place Foundation, a 501(c)3 organization, was formed in 2006 to honor Metro Sgt. Henry Prendes. The Foundation is currently seeking help for the building phase of the camp. For more information or to make a donation, visit www.henrysplace.org
