Trauma Support Program Seeks Volunteers

The non-profit Trauma Intervention Program (TIP) of Southern Nevada, Inc. is currently recruiting compassionate citizens to serve on its emergency response crisis team to help people on the worst day of their life.

TIP of Southern Nevada began serving the citizens of Clark County in 1994. TIP is committed to helping those in crisis by providing immediate on-scene support to those emotionally traumatized. TIP volunteers are requested by local police, fire and hospital personnel to respond to scenes of sudden or unexpected death, violent crimes, sexual assault and other traumatic events to provide emotional and practical support to family, friends, witnesses or victims.

TIP volunteers must have a clean criminal and driving history. Volunteers are required to attend a training academy, pass a three-month field training program and attend a monthly continuing education meeting. Volunteers are also required to commit to three 12-hour shifts per month.

Henderson Receives Donation from Reader's Digest

Henderson Mayor Andy Hafen welcomed representatives from the Reader’s Digest "We Hear You America" campaign last week as part of the "100 Cities in 100 Days" RV Tour.

Representatives from the publication presented a $1,000 check "to help stimulate the economy with publicity [and] to give the town the recognition it deserves," according to officials with the campaign.

Henderson was chosen as a site on the tour because Reader’s Digest “recognized some incredible pride [in the community]” in addition to personal stories about economic hardships submitted through the website www.rd.com by the city's supporters. Submissions included personal stories about difficulties finding jobs and housing problems in the current economy.

Also at the event were representatives from the city,s Neighborhood Services division as well as representatives from HopeLink, who accepted the $1,000 donation from Reader’s Digest.
