Man Linked to Unsolved Murder Arrested on Prostitution-Related Charges

LAS VEGAS -- Las Vegas police have arrested 33-year-old Solomon Barron on several prostitution-related charges, including pandering and living off the earnings of a prostitute.

According to the arrest report, Barron transported several women from the east coast to work for him as prostitutes in Las Vegas. One of the girls contacted police after she decided she no longer wanted to work as a prostitute.

Barron rented multiple apartments near Flamingo and Valley View where several prostitutes lived and worked, according to police. Detectives raided those apartments in January of 2010 and found evidence that Barron was running a prostitution-related operation.

Fire Captain Faces Federal Sex Charges

LAS VEGAS -- A Clark County Fire Department captain has been indicted on federal charges of enticing a minor for sex.

Authorities say 55-year-old Martin Vohwinkel surrendered to U.S. marshals on Wednesday and is scheduled for an initial court appearance on Thursday.

U.S. Attorney Daniel G. Bogden says that Vohwinkel is accused of using a computer to coerce and entice a person under 18 to engage in sexual activity. The indictment was handed down this week.

Vohwinkel is already facing a state charge of using technology to lure a child after he allegedly tried to use the Internet to meet someone he thought was a 14-year-old girl. He was really conversing with a Henderson police detective.
