Earlier this week, senior Samantha Banz was given the Certificate of Commendation by City of Henderson Councilwoman Debra March.

The presentation took place at the annual GreenFest in honor of Earth Day at the Springs Preserve last week.

"She did a great job, and we are very happy, and feel very fortunate to have such a dedicated and wonderful daughter," Sonja Rogers-Banz, Samantha’s mother, said. "She shines inside and out."

Earlier in the year, Banz was invited, along with other members of CCSD's "green" Eco-Ambassador program, to speak in front of the CCSD Board of School Trustees. She spoke about the green movement at Liberty High School along with her experiences at the National Green School Conference in Florida.

"Banz's participation on behalf of Liberty as an inaugural member of the CCSD Eco-Ambassador Program has helped to secure our high school as a leader in green efforts," Environmental Awareness Club (EAC) Adviser David Butler said.

Banz jumped into Liberty's EAC this school year after serving as president of the Environmental Club at Westview High School in Portland, Ore.  Banz was accepted to UNLV where she will major in hospitality management and hotel administration.

"Samantha has been one of the most mature, intelligent, and friendly students I have worked with at Liberty," Butler said.  "Her leadership in the EAC during our Green Week was indispensable.  I have the utmost respect for her and am confident she will achieve whatever she sets her mind to in life."
