NSC Student Named Guinn Scholarship Recipient

A Nevada State College senior and Foothill High School graduate is the southern Nevada recipient of the 2013 Kenny C. Guinn Memorial Millennium Scholarship.

Allysa Starkweather, a secondary education-mathematics major, was named as the recipient Wednesday. She is scheduled to graduate from NSC in 2014.

The scholarship is for students entering their last year of college at a higher education institution in Nevada, must be working towards getting a license in elementary or secondary education, maintain a grade point average of not less than 3.5, state a commitment to teaching in Nevada upon graduation and have a record of community service.

The scholarship was established in 2011, following the sudden death of former Governor Kenny Guinn in 2010.

Guinn was known for being a champion of education and served as the superintendent of the Clark County School District for many years.
