'80s Hit Maker Headlining Free Concert Friday

 

An artist who made his name with several big songs in the '80s will be promoting his new album of patriotic songs at Friday's ArtBeat in Henderson.

John Parr had two chart-toppers with "St. Elmo's Fire (Man in Motion)," which was the main title song from the movie "St. Elmo's Fire," and "Naughty Naughty."

The pre-show starts at 6:30 p.m. and the concert starts at 8 p.m., at the Henderson Events Plaza 200 S. Water Street. Admission is complimentary.

Parr's new album "The Mission" is dedicated to the men and women of the military. Proceeds from the album sales benefit the USO and USA Cares, a national organization that helps post- 9/11 active duty servicemen and women with financial support and rehabilitation needs.

ArtBeat is presented by the retail giant Target.

'American Idol' Finalist Kicks Off Fall ArtBeat

A singer and songwriter, who gained a following as a contestant on “American Idol,” is kicking off the fall season of ArtBeat presented by Target.

Casey Abrams will be on stage at the Henderson Events Plaza, 200 S. Water Street. The free show is at 8 p.m. Friday, September 7. Pre-show activities will start at 6:30 p.m. 

Abrams was a finalist in season 10 of the hit TV show, finishing in sixth place. Since leaving Idol, he has performed on several shows, including “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” and “Live with Kelly.”

He released his first album in June. It was produced by “American Idol” judge Randy Jackson. It includes guest appearances by Idol alumni Daughtry and Adam Lambert.

All-Day Ska Show at Henderson Events Plaza

 

An all-day festival of Ska music is coming to Henderson this weekend.

Viva Ska Vegas will be at the Henderson Events Plaza, 200 S. Water Street. The show starts at noon Saturday. It is an all-ages show. 

The Ska-fest will be headlined by the Orange County, California band The Aquabats and the Jamaican band, The Skatalites. The Skatalites formed in the 1960s and are considered pioneers of the Ska movement. The Las Vegas-based band Tuesday After School will also be performing.

Tickets are still available. General admission tickets are $22 and VIP tickets at $42. VIP tickets include a T-shirt and poster, as well as discounted access to the bar. Tickets can be purchased through ticketfly.com.

The official after party will be held immediately following the show at The Goldmine Tavern, 23 South Water Street.

 

The Farm Will Play Friday in Henderson

 

A new country crossover band will be the featured entertainment at Friday’s ArtBeat in Henderson.

The Farm recently made their debut at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. Now, the group will be bringing their brand of country to the Henderson Events Plaza, 200 S. Water Street. ArtBeat is concert series presented by Target.

The pre-show starts at 6:30 p.m. The concert starts at 8 p.m. Admission is complimentary.
