Open Houses Slated for Red Rock Canyon

Open Houses Slated for Red Rock Canyon

The Bureau of Land Management, Red Rock/Sloan Field Office will be holding open houses the third Thursday of each month. The open houses will be held to give the public an opportunity to meet staff, get information about projects and planning, and ask questions about the management of Red Rock and Sloan Canyon National Conservation Areas and Walking Box Ranch.

The first open house will be held Thursday. Open houses will run from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Red Rock Canyon Visitor Center. When participants enter the fee booth at the entrance of the Scenic Drive, they should tell the attendant that they are attending the open house and fees will be waived.

Join "Operation Zero" and Help Clean Up Lake Mead

Join "Operation Zero" and Help Clean Up Lake Mead

The National Park Service is seeking some volunteers to help them clean up Lake Mead. As part of "Operation Zero", participants would get to take a scenic boat ride over the lake, typically about 45 minutes, and then spend 2 hours cleaning up litter from the area before another ride back to the starting point.

“There are more people who love the lake than have a boat,” said Lake Mead Volunteer Manager Nancy Bernard. “We came up with this program to cleanup remote areas while giving families and groups a chance to get out on the lake.”

NPS is searching for groups of volunteers who are available on the following days to take place in "Operation Zero":
