A sweep from Down Under highlighted Sunday’s triathlon in Henderson.

The City of Henderson hosted the Marine Corps Ironman World Championship 70.3 for the first time, with approximately 1,700 athletes from across the globe competing. Top professionals Craig Alexander and Melissa Rollison - both from Australia - celebrated victories, crossing the finish line at the Henderson Pavilion in 3:54:48 and 4:30:55, respectively.

With the win, Alexander captured his second World Championship 70.3, while Rollison marked her first, just one year after entering her first 70.3 distance race. The top five professional men’s and women’s results from the Marine Corps Ironman World Championship 70.3 follow:

The triathlon, which moved from Clearwater, Florida, featured a 1.2-mile swim in Lake Las Vegas, 56-mile bike course, reaching multiple climbs up to 9,700 feet, throughout Lake Mead National Recreation Area and a 13.1-mile run, boasting an additional 2,000-foot elevation gain, through Henderson’s beautiful communities.

The Marine Corps Ironman World Championship will return to Henderson next September as part of a five-year contract with the World Triathlon Union.
