Henderson Seeking Entries for WinterFest Parade

The city of Henderson is looking for entries for this year's WinterFest Evening Light Parade.

The parade is part of the city's annual holiday celebration. The parade will be at 5 p.m. Saturday, December 14 in Henderson's Water Street District.

Floats must be illuminated and reflect this year's theme: An Old-Fashioned Christmas Delight. Cash prizes will be awarded for top three floats. Entries will be judged in three categories: incorporation of lights, creativity and overall appeal.

The registration deadline is Wednesday, November 27. Applications are available online at hendersonlive.com.

Classic Car Show Open in Henderson

Southern Nevada's largest car show is under way right now in Henderson.

The 14th annual Super Run Classic Car Show kicked off Thursday at Fiesta Henderson Hotel and Casino. Events are planned throughout the weekend in the Water Street District in downtown Henderson.

The show includes 1,000 vintage cars on display, car competitions, live music and entertainment.

Super Run is open from noon until 9 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.

The event has forced the closure of several streets in the area, including Water Street from Ocean to Victory. Pacific Avenue and Army Street from Water Street to Market. Atlantic Avenue from Water to Lead and Basic Road will be partially closed.

Admission to the event is complimentary.

Bowling Championship Event Comes to Henderson

A large sports competition hits Henderson later in August and will start its weekend with a kickoff event in Green Valley.

Henderson will host the World Tenpin Bowling Association (WTBA) World Championships from August 16-30. Its opening celebration will take place on August 16 at the Henderson Pavilion, and is free and open to the public. The event begins at 8 p.m.

The 2013 WTBA World Championships will occur at the Strike Zone Bowling Center inside Sunset Station Hotel & Casino. Admission to the tournament is $10 daily or $75 for the two-week event.

In 2011, Henderson was chosen over Abu Dhabi and Munich, Germany to host the WTBA World Championships.

Golf Tournament Honoring Prendes Raises $16,000

A golf tournament honoring a Metro Police sergeant killed in the line of duty raised significant money to benefit a charity formed in his memory.

Held Friday at Southshore Golf Club at Lake Las Vegas, the 7th Annual Henry Prendes Charity Golf Classic raised $16,000 for Henry’s Place, a camp for underprivileged kids in southern Nevada that is currently being developed in Cedar City, Utah.

Part of that money will be donated to the Injured Police Officers Fund to benefit the family of David Vanbuskirk, the Metro officer who died July 22 during a search and rescue operation.

Henderson Looking for Artists to Transform Hubcaps

The City of Henderson is looking for artists of all ages and skill levels to be part of the 2nd annual Super Run Hubcap Art Gallery.

The gallery will be part of the Super Run car show set for the end of September. The hubcap art will be on display inside the Henderson Convention Center Friday, September 27 through Sunday September 29.

The hubcaps are only $5 and can be purchased now through Wednesday, August 28 at the Henderson Convention Center. Applications for the show are available at hendersonlive.com.

Artists can donate their artwork for a silent auction with all proceeds going to City Lights Youth Scholarship Fund, a college scholarship for Henderson high school graduates seeking a fine arts degree.

Chris O'Rourke will be the featured artist at this year's Hubcap Art Gallery. He is an up-and-coming local artist who is spending the summer building a large abstract metal sculpture using dozens of hubcaps.

Henderson Announces Fourth of July Plans

The city of Henderson has announced its plans for its Fourth of July celebration.

The party starts at 6 p.m. Thursday at Mission Hills Park, 551 East Mission Drive. The celebration includes family-oriented activities like races, games and contests.

People interested in sports can be part of the 3-on-3 basketball tournament or two volleyball competitions.

There will also be live entertainment, including a battle of the bands. Food will be available for purchase. Admission to the event is free.

The whole thing will end with an 18-minute fireworks display, which will start at 9 p.m.

Parking will be available at Foothill High School. A free shuttle service will start from the high school parking lot at 5:30 p.m.

Henderson Announces Dates for Annual Car Show

The city of Henderson has announced dates for the largest car show in Southern Nevada.

The 14th annual Super Run will be September 26 through 29 at the Henderson Events Plaza, 200 South Water Street.

The show features thousands of classic cars and hot rods, live music, a burnout competition, children's play area, farmers market and a hubcap art gallery.

This year, Fiesta Henderson Hotel and Casino will host the official Super Run kickoff. Classic cars will be on display in the resort's parking lot from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday, September 26 before they roll to the historic Water Street District.
