Nevada Recreation and Park Society's 2011 Conference to be Held in Henderson

On March 16th-18th, the city of Henderson will be welcoming the statewide members of the Nevada Recreation and Park Society for this year's conference! The Society selected the at Black Mountain Recreation Center/Aquatic Complex as the venue for 2011's “Navigating the Journey”-themed event, which will look at how to industry professionals are handling the current economic woes.

“The conference provides outstanding educational and networking opportunities for people not just in the parks and recreation profession, but also a variety of related fields. Teachers, day care providers, human resource professionals and people who own or work at businesses such as karate schools and dance schools can benefit from what will be presented,” said Dirk Richwine, conference chair.

BYU Young Ambassadors to Perform Harmony: The Music of Life, at Henderson Pavilion

This Friday, BYU's Young Ambassadors will be performing their new show, Harmony: The Music of Life, at the Henderson Pavilion. Harmony pulls music from many beloved musicals such as Carousel and Wicked, as well as songs from artists such as Michael Buble and Billy Joel, to depict scenes from life's major moments. The show will feature choreography, costuming, and striking vocals. Tickets are $5, and can be purchased online at HendersonLive.com or in person at the box office.

Harmony: The Music of Life will begin at 7pm on Friday February 25th at Henderson Pavilion, 200 S. Green Valley Parkway.

All Star Buddy Bowl Charity and Flag Football Tournament

Come out to The Henderson International School for the inaugural Nevada All Star Buddy Bowl Charity and Flag Football Tournament! In the Buddy Bowl, community members will be playing flag football alongside permanently disabled troops and injured vetrans. The funds raised will benefit injured troops and first responders. So come out and cheer on the teams in this good-spirited skirmish!

The Buddy Bowl will take place Saturday, February 26th from 9am to 3pm at The Henderson International School, 1165 Sandyridge Avenue, Henderson.

Missoula Children's Theatre Holding Open Auditions for King Arthur's Quest

All of Henderson's budding actors from kindergarten to 12th grade are invited to try out for the musical, King Arthur's Quest! This production will put a fresh spin on the mythical tale of King Arthur and his knights. There will be multiple days of tryouts and two shows, so bring your rising star to try out for a seat around the Round Table!

Auditions will be held on two Mondays in March, with mandatory registration beginning at 3 p.m. on both days.

Monday, March 7 from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. at the Henderson Convention Center, 200 S. Water Street, Water Street District and on

Monday, March 14 from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. at the Henderson Multigenerational Center, 250 S. Green Valley Parkway

Clark County Museum Presents Pueblo Indian Art: Ongoing Traditions

Experience 150 years of Pueblo Indian culture through a new exhibit at the Clark County Museum titled, “Pueblo Indian Art: Ongoing Traditions,”. The exhibit opens March 19 and continues through June 3. Jewelry, pottery, baskets, textiles and artifacts of the Pueblo people will be on display at the museum at 1830 S. Boulder Highway in Henderson as part of the museum’s celebration of Native American art in March.

 “The Pueblo people of the American Southwest have been producing functional art for themselves and as trade for centuries,” Dawna Jolliff, Curator of Exhibits for the museum said. “By utilizing native plants, rocks, minerals and clay, artists produced beautiful objects for everyday use and special occasions.”
