County Museum Hosts Photography Event

The museum hosts rotating exhibits at various times.

The Steampunk Photo Odyssey and Fashion Show will take place from 1 to 7 p.m. Saturday on the grounds of the Clark County Museum, 1830 S. Boulder Highway in Henderson.

Art Festival will Feature Just-for-Kids Section

The Art Festival of Henderson will have a new feature this year just for budding artists.

There will be an area dedicated to allowing children to explore their imaginations through art. The Imagination Station will feature interactive art projects designed for little hands and growing imaginations.

There will be painting lessons, a giant recycled soda can mural, make and take Mother’s Day gifts, Henna artists and a yoga studio. The festival is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 12 and Sunday, May 13 at the Henderson Events Plaza, 200 S. Water Street.

Admission to the festival is free. Some of the booths and activities will require a fee.

There is also a chalk art contest. The city is currently taking applications for the competition. Cash prizes will be awarded in two categories: student and adult. There will also be a People’s Choice award. Artists interested in the competition must submit a sketch of the artwork by Friday, May 4.

Nellis Airmen Named Grand Marshals at Henderson Parade

 

Five airmen from Nellis Air Force Base will serve as grand marshals for Saturday’s Henderson Heritage Parade. The event honors the 59-year history of Henderson.

Titanic Anniversary to be Marked in Dinner, Cruise

 

A Lake Las Vegas dinner and cruise will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Titanic.

Bernard's Bistro at Lake Las Vegas will attempt to recreate the ambience and elegance that First Class passengers enjoyed on the magnificent ship. 

A six-course dinner at 7 p.m. April 14 begins the evening, which includes live entertainment. A champagne cruise sets sail at 10 p.m.

The cost is $100 per person and attendance is capped at 100 reservations. For more information, call 565-1155.

The actual anniversary of the Titanic sinking is April 15.

Ethel M Hosting Spring Spectacular Weekend

Ethel M Chocolate Factory is offering a weekend of free events designed for the whole family.

The spring spectacular starts at 1 p.m. Friday. There will be photos with the Easter bunny, balloon artists, face painters and factory tours.

The events planned for Saturday include a fundraiser for Opportunity Village. Beginning at noon, an art display and sale will open with all proceeds going to Opportunity Village. Along with the Easter bunny, balloon artists and face painters, musical entertainment will be provided by jazz group Blu7. There will be lemonade and food from Slidin’ Thru available for purchase. The Slidn’ Thru truck will stop serving at 2:30 p.m.

The celebration starts at 1 p.m. Sunday. The events will end at 5 p.m., each day.

 

'No Doubt' Drummer will Play with New Wave Idols

 

A drummer from a band that cranked out hits in the 90s will be performing with a band that was well known in the 80s.

No Doubt drummer Adrian Young will perform with Bow Wow Wow’s Annabella Lwin and Leigh Roy Gorman Friday at the Henderson Events Plaza, 200 S. Water Street. The show is the season opener for the spring edition of Henderson’s ArtBeat. The series is presented by retail giant Target.

The band will play their smash hit “I Want Candy” and more. Admission is free. The pre-show starts at 6:30 p.m. The concert starts at 8 p.m.

Hafen, Schroder to Meet with Henderson Residents

 

Henderson residents with a message for the mayor or city council can deliver it directly Thursday night at a community meeting.

Mayor Andy Hafen and Councilwoman Gerri Schroder will host Neighborhood Connections, a town-hall type gathering for the residents of Ward I. City of Henderson staff will be in attendance from 6-7 p.m. at Heritage Park Senior Facility, 300 Racetrack Road, to answer questions and provide information to residents as well.

The event is designed to encourage dialogue between neighbors and city leaders regarding projects and questions that pertain to the city of Henderson. Neighborhood Connections is held quarterly to enable city leaders to meet and interact with the residents of each of the four wards within the city of Henderson.
