Valley Health Promising Hospital at Henderson Site

HENDERSON, Nev. (AP) -- Officials say an anchor tenant has committed to building a centerpiece hospital in a proposed health village being planned on a 170-acre former gravel pit in Henderson.

Valley Health System says it'll build its fifth Las Vegas-area acute care hospital on a 38.5-acre site at the northeast corner of the U.S. 95 freeway and Galleria Drive.

The overall site is currently vacant. Project designers call it Union Village.

They've told the Henderson City Council they're planning a first-of-its-kind integrated health village including a retail center, residential apartments, a senior care center and a cultural facility.

Costs have been put at more than $1.5 billion. Construction is expected to begin in 2015 and take up to six years to complete.

Valley Health is a subsidiary of Universal Health Services Inc.
