Council Approves Reid as City Attorney | News
HENDERSON (AP) -- One of U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's five sons is the new city attorney in Henderson.
City Council members on Tuesday ratified a three-year contract paying Josh Reid about $190,000 a year. That's about the same as the city attorney in Las Vegas.
Councilwoman Kathleen Vermillion abstained from voting. She also abstained when Reid was selected Nov. 29. Reid officially starts Monday. He'll replace interim City Attorney Christine Guerci-Nyhus.
The former city attorney, Elizabeth Quillin, was fired after a May drunken driving traffic accident during work hours.
Reid will represent Henderson in civil cases, and oversee city traffic and misdemeanor prosecutors in Henderson Municipal Court. The city attorney also counsels elected officials, department heads and boards and commissions.
