High school seniors-to-be can find help applying for college and obtaining scholarships at an upcoming workshop.

The Henderson Blue Ribbon Commission On Educational Excellence and Youth Opportunity (Blue Ribbon Commission) is hosting its annual college application and scholarship workshop from 6-9 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 20 and Wednesday, Sept. 21 at the Henderson Multigenerational Center, 250 S. Green Valley Pkwy.

The free program is sponsored by the City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department. Parents and teens may RSVP before Sept. 13 by calling 267-4016. Walk-ins are also welcome pending space availability.

The workshop includes one-on-one assistance, information for parents, applications, tips about college life, and scholarship resources. Parents and teens can also learn how to write a college resume, draft a solid cover letter, complete college essays, and submit successful college applications.

“The college application process can be daunting for parents and teens because of the sheer amount of paperwork and deadlines involved,” said Kurt Williams, Recreation Services manager, City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department. “This workshop is designed to provide information, resources and support to make the process simpler and less stressful.”
