Swimmers Go for Record in Henderson

The City of Henderson was part of what organizers hope is the world's largest swimming lesson Tuesday.

It was an attempt to set a world record while highlighting the importance of swimming lessons and water safety.

Parents, kids and swim instructors gathered at several swimming pools in the city limits for the attempt. It was part of a world-wide effort involving around 10,000 kids across four continents. The organizers say if kids haven't learned to swim by the time they're in the third grade they probably never will.

"The most important thing is to learn the steps that you need to keep yourself safe in an aquatic environment . Whether it is here at a municipal pool, in a backyard pool, at a friends pool, or in any body of water." said Kim Becker, Communications and Marketing Supervisor for the City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department.
The Guinness Book of World Records will have to verify the event before it is certified as record setting.
