Attorney General office not getting involved in mayor dispute
Politics

The state attorney general says the Henderson mayor can keep his job.

Catherine Cortez Masto sent a letter Thursday explaining her office will not try to remove Mayor Andy Hafen from office.

Last month. Hafen's challenger in the last election asked the state to remove Hafen from office because he says the mayor is over his term limit.

It comes in the wake of a recent state supreme court ruling that says a politician who hits his or her term limit while on a city council cannot then run for mayor in the same jurisdiction.

Hafen was on the Henderson City Council for 22 years, before he was elected mayor. The letters says the state will not make Hafen step down since he was elected before the supreme court ruling came down.
