Toddler Drowns at Home of Former NFL Star

HENDERSON - The 2-year-old son of former NFL quarterback Randall Cunningham drowned in a backyard hot tub Tuesday.

Metro Police was called to a home on Robindale around 5:00 p.m. Police say the child was found floating in a Jacuzzi. The child was rushed to the hospital but did not survive. The Clark County coroner has identified the child as Christian Cunningham.

Cunningham was not at the home at the time of the drowning. The 47-year-old is now an ordained minister and pastor of a church in Las Vegas.

Metro Police Lt. Dennis Flynn says a woman at the house with several other children found the child and began trying to resuscitate him. The child was pronounced dead at St. Rose Dominican Hospital Siena campus in Henderson.

Young Pitcher Fights Tough Adversity

HENDERSON, Nev. -- Life threw Ryan Popowcer a curveball. But he's fighting it off and throwing back something even more nasty.

"I have a slurve, which is pretty good. It's pretty good. They swing over it," he said.

Batters swing over his unhittable combination of slider and curveball pitch. Not bad for the Liberty High School freshman. Even more impressive for someone suffering from scoliosis.

"I have a pretty bad curve and the brace to correct it," he said.

A painful brace, which he must wear nightly in hopes of correcting the 24-percent curve in his spine.

"We would've never known by looking at him, because obviously he was born with it. But they do the screenings in school -- in seventh grade -- and it came back with a question mark on it," said Ryan's father Sam Popowcer.

"I think it's all mental. Have the right attitude and know you can accomplish anything. That's all you need," said Ryan.

More Homeowners Falling Delinquent on Mortgages

LAS VEGAS -- The number of Southern Nevada homeowners delinquent on their mortgage payments has climbed steadily for the past several months. In some cases, it's people just willing to walk away from their homes, and in other cases, homeowners are holding out hope that they will get a loan modification.

In any given neighborhood, chances are good that a homeowner is the process of walking away from their mortgage. In the past, five months was typically the longest a homeowner could stay in their home until the bank would come knocking. But that is no longer the case.

Nick Nolf with The Nolf Group has been in the real estate business through the boom, the bust, and now the slow turn-around.
