Crime

HENDERSON, Nev. -- Anita Mann, the 19-year-old accused of driving drunk and killing two people, appeared in a Henderson courtroom Wednesday morning.

Her bail was set at $225,000 and her preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 11th. When asked if she understood the charges against her, Mann said she did.

She is facing two counts of felony DUI for the deaths of 66-year-old Louis Madden and 65-year-old Karen Hicks who were killed on February 16th. The couple was headed home from lunch when Mann's car rear-ended their car. Police say Mann's blood alcohol level was more than three times the legal limit.

"This is a tragic case for everyone concerned, all the families, certainly the families involved in the accident and their loved ones and Anita and her family. It's tragic and it's terrible for everyone," said Steve Wolfson, Mann's attorney.

Only a few minutes prior to the crash, Mann hit another vehicle and drove off.

Mann attended CSN and her parents describe as a good kid who made good grades.

Investigators were at the scene of the deadly crash Wednesday morning using an accelerometer to determine how fast Mann was going at the time of impact.
