Henderson Students Collect Hundreds of Shoes for Haiti

HENDERSON, Nev. -- Students at one Henderson school are putting their best foot forward. They are collecting shoes to send to Haiti.

Students in the SAVE program at Elise Wolff Elementary came up with the idea after they saw all the stories on the news. The shoes will be given to Soles for Souls, a group that provides shoes to the needy.

"It'll make them feel good and they probably like to know that other people are worried about them," said fifth grader Cayman Nelson.

Teachers say the response has been overwhelming.

"We initially wanted to raise about 500 pairs of shoes to donate to Haiti and within our first two and a half weeks, we raised 536 and after today we're at over 650 pairs," said counselor Julie Doody.

You can drop off shoes at the school until Friday.
