WinterFest Starts Thursday in Henderson

The city of Henderson's big holiday celebration kicks off Thursday at the historic Water Street district.

WinterFest begins with a special concert by the Henderson Symphony Orchestra at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Henderson Convention Center.

The concert is just one of several live entertainment options during the three-day event.

Friday's big event will be the Henderson tree lighting ceremony and celebration from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Henderson Events Plaza. The tree will be lit by Henderson Mayor Andy Hafen at 6 p.m.

On Saturday, the celebration starts at noon and culminates with the WinterFest Evening Light Parade starting at 5 p.m. Saturday. Floats covered in colorful holiday lights will glide through the historic Water Street district.

The festivities will include horse-drawn carriage rides, carolers, holiday crafts, a gingerbread house display and, of course, Santa Claus.

People can give a little joy to those in need during the festival by bringing a new, unwrapped toy for Toys for Tots. The city will be collecting for the charity through Dec. 16.

Admission to WinterFest is complimentary.
