WinterFest to Feature Fish Tank from "Tanked" Crew

The annual Henderson holiday celebration known as WinterFest will feature a one-of-a-kind holiday fish tank built by the stars of "Tanked," the Animal Planet's hit show.

Besides celebrating the holidays, this year's WinterFest will also mark the end of the city's 60th anniversary celebration. The custom-built tank will be part of that celebration.

The tank will be on display inside the Henderson Convention Center in the city's historic district during the WinterFest, which is from Thursday, Dec. 12 through Saturday, Dec. 14.

Fans of the show, which is based around a southern Nevada business that makes custom-built fish tanks, can see the episode about building the tank at 10 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12 on Discovery Channel and at 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20 on Animal Planet.

Guests to WinterFest will be treated to live entertainment, horse-drawn carriage rides, gingerbread house displays, children activities, tree lightning and an evening light parade.  

Bret Michaels Playing Henderson Wednesday

A singer who made his name first as an 80s rock star and then again as a reality TV star is coming to Henderson Wednesday.

Bret Michaels will be playing the Henderson Pavilion at 8 p.m. It his only solo concert in the Las Vegas valley this year.

He will be singing hits from his time in Poison and from his solo career. Tickets are $25.

Besides performing, Michaels will be filming scenes for his upcoming season of his Travel Channel show "Rock My RV" in Henderson.

Henderson Team Part of Red Bull Flugtag

A team from Henderson will be part of this year's Red Bull Flugtag in Long Beach, California.

The event gives people a chance to create a flying machine that they will launch off a 28-foot high flight deck at Long Beach's Rainbow Harbor. This year's event will be Saturday, September 21.

The team from Henderson is known as We 'Can' Do It. The team is made up of one first timer and three veterans. When they first competed in 2010, the team walked away with 2nd place honors.

We 'Can' Do It plans to create a craft based around a P-51 Mustang. The project is going on in one of the team members' house in Henderson.

Besides Long Beach, this year's Flugtag will take place in Washington, D.C., Miami, Chicago and Dallas/Fort Worth.

More Bands Added to Concert Lineup

More bands have been added to the lineup for the upcoming Scream It Like You Mean It Tour.

The show will feature Story of the Year, along with Like Moths To Flames, Hawthrone Heights, Set It Off and I Am King.

The concert starts at 5 p.m. Tuesday, October 22 at the Henderson Events Plaza, 200 South Water Street.

Tickets are $21 in advance and $24 on the day of the show. They can be purchased through tickefly.com. It is an all-ages show.

The headliners, Story of the Year, reunites for a world tour in celebration of the 10th anniversary of their debut album Page Avenue.

Remodeled Upscale Movie Theater Opens Friday


A long-shuttered movie theater in Green Valley makes a triumphant return Friday as a luxury spot featuring reclining seats and alcohol service.

Galaxy Green Valley Luxury+ Theatre, located in the Green Valley Town Center shopping center at 4500 E. Sunset Rd., will feature  eight screens and luxury amenities including beer on tap and wine service, cushioned reclining seats with powered footrests and extra-wide rows. Reserved seating can be purchased online at galaxytheatres.com, via Galaxy Theatres iPhone and Android app or in-person at the box office. For show times, call 442-0244.

The theater originally closed in 2005 as the entire shopping complex faltered, leaving only Barley’s Casino in the west end of the large area.
